World's Cheapest Laptop

Sakshat is a tablet computer manufactured by HCL Technologies and is the World's Cheapest Tablet. It is designed in India as a low cost but full functioning device in order to attempt to bridge the digital divide.The device has been developed as part of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology that aims to link 25,000 colleges and 400 universities on the subcontinent in an e-learning program via an existing Sakshat portal.

* Supports Open Office,SciLab and Internet Browsing,cups (for printing support) / Media player capable of playing streamed as well as stored media files JavaScript, pdf plug-in java / Wireless communication for Audio/video I/O / Cloud computing option / Remote device management capability,Rendering YouTube and other online video services (open source flash players, e.g., gnash or swfdec).

A total of 10,000 Sakshat tablets had already shipped to IIT Rajasthan by June-end, following by the launch of over 90,000 tablet units in the next 4 months.While the tablets will be priced at Rs 2,200, there are reports of plans for later subsidies of 50%. The 1500 Rupee ( $35 USD) tablet might go for Rs. 1100 .

The laptops will be distributed in institutions by the HRD ministry.
